Brokers have always been known for their boisterous banter and protecting their own. So, on April 29, 1992, when Thomson Reuters launched Matching, the arrival of the anonymous electronic platform put the cat among the pigeons for foreign exchange brokers.

James Watson, an employee of the company in the early days, recalls a Christmas party for brokers in 1993, hosted by Royal Bank of Scotland, and recounts the hostility with which voice brokers awaited him.
