Financial technology could be set for a revolution

Nine large global banks have formed a partnership to explore the potential application of distributed ledger technologies, and to establish consistent standards and protocols for the technology behind virtual currency bitcoin.

The initiative is spearheaded by financial innovation company R3, led by David Rutter, the former chief executive of currency trading platform EBS.

The partnership consists of Barclays, BBVA, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Credit Suisse, JP Morgan, State Street, Royal
