Updated flagship report warns EM corporates ‘natural hedge' could become redundant

The US economy's relative strength compared with other advanced economies is likely to cause a "lasting upswing" in the dollar, the International Monetary Fund predicts in its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) report.

The potential upshot is balance sheet and funding strains for dollar debtors, which could "more than offset" the beneficial impact on trade from currency depreciation in real terms, the fund warns.
