Giancarlo to regulators: give blockchain innovators space

CFTC commissioner says they must avoid impeding innovation and investment, and provide a straightforward legal environment

US regulators must give innovators space to develop and improve distributed ledger technology (DLT), and work with their foreign counterparts towards a harmonised legal and regulatory response, so as not to "stifle" blockchain's potential, said Christopher Giancarlo, a commissioner at the US Commodity Futures Trading commission (CFTC).

"The technology is moving rapidly, certainly faster than underlying legal and regulatory frameworks," Giancarlo said during a special address at the Depository
