The Australian government has appointed Guy Debelle, assistant governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), as the new deputy governor of the central bank and a member of the board.

Debelle will take up his new position on September 18 for a five-year term in the role vacated by Philip Lowe, who will become governor later this month.
