Timothy Massad, chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has urged market participants to start preparing for the implementation of the next phase of uncleared margin rules, which will require companies to post variation margin for certain contracts from March 1, 2017.

The warning comes after the US, along with Japan and Canada, implemented the first round of the non-cleared margin rules for derivatives on September 1, forcing dealers to post initial margin for certain
