Strong Results For Emerging Market Currency Funds For 1999 But Poor Performance Elsewhere

STAMFORD, CT--Emerging markets were the only sector where international currency fund managers did well last year, according to Parker Global Strategies which produces indices gauging the performance of currency funds.

Parker’s Emerging FX Index--which assesses the performance of six currency fund managers investing in the emerging markets--was up 19.75 per cent for the year. The six firms have an equity capital of $300 million.

But, the Parker FX Index--which tracks the performance of 48 currency
