Trump nominates Jay Powell as Fed chairman

Powell has voted in line with Yellen’s agenda and is not expected to shift away from current policy

US President Donald Trump has nominated Jerome ‘Jay’ Powell to replace Janet Yellen as chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, the White House announced on November 2 – breaking the long-held pattern of a new president asking the incumbent leader to remain for another term.

Powell has been a member of the board since May 2012. If confirmed by the US Senate to take the helm, he will start serving a four-year term on February 3, 2018. He has voted in line with Yellen’s agenda and
