Dollar rebound on cards, but no respite long term – ABN Amro

The greenback's prospects remain negative in the long run, but sterling may have a positive 2019

The dollar could stage a mild recovery in the coming weeks and months, pushing EUR/USD to test 1.20, but the resurgence will not change the negative longer-term outlook on the greenback, says Georgette Boele, co-ordinator of currency and precious metal strategy at ABN Amro.

“Further out, we are of the view that the US dollar is in a multi-year downtrend, which started in 2017, and we expect more weakness next year,” she says.
