The economic case for de-escalation in the US-China trade war is as sound as ever, but it is practically impossible to predict the US administration’s behaviour using axioms of rational geopolitical and economic policy-making. So the current trajectory favours escalation, says Ranko Berich, head of market analysis at Monex Europe.

“We see little relief in trade war risk in the near term, but maintain some optimism over the 12-[month] horizon,” Berich says.
