Market ponders ECB rate policy

FRANKFURT -- The European Central Bank (ECB) is unlikely to tamper with monetary policy this week, but analysts are divided on when the bank will shift interest rates.

Expectations are that the next move will be a hike, but the timing of such a move is dependent on several factors, the key issue being the outlook for the US economy.

"As we saw throughout last year, and contrary to what the ECB said in January 2001, euroland’s growth fortunes are very much dependent upon the US economic cycle,"
