Clearing will become a cheaper alternative to prime brokerage for the majority of clients, delegates were told at the Futures Industry Association’s IDX event in London on June 5, as uncleared margin rules begin to bite.

“For the majority of clients, clearing will become cheaper than prime brokerage and it will become cheaper than not clearing. Whether you trade through a prime broker or whether you trade bilaterally, initial margin is going to apply,” said Paddy Boyle, global head at LCH’s
