CME To Launch Currency "Forwards"

The CME plans to add currency forwards to its range of FX offerings, pending Commodities Futures Trading Commission approval. The contracts carry lower capital charges than traditional forward transactions and risk can be laid off on the exchange, says a CME official.

The currency forwards were to be based on the CME's "rolling spot" contracts that were launched in sterling and Deutsche marks in 1993.

The CME gained CFTC approval
