Forex volumes surge in Q1

CHICAGO & LONDON – CME Group reported foreign exchange volumes recorded a sharp rise in March from a year ago, helping to notch up a record first quarter.

The Chicago exchange reported on Tuesday (April 6) that foreign exchange volumes averaged 907,000 contracts a day last month, reflecting average daily notional value of $116 billion. This is up 66% versus 546,000 contracts a day in March 2009, with a notional value of $66 billion. February volumes this year averaged 931,000 contracts a day
