Option prices rocket over euro crisis and UK hung parliament

Mark Barnes, global head of foreign exchange at RBS in London, said on Friday (May 7) that options vols in the market were significantly higher than mid-week. “There's been lots of buyers of longer-dated euro low strikes. All the flow is buying dollar calls and euro puts, pushing up vols,” he said. “Vols spiked massively yesterday (Thursday) when we saw that fake move in the US market."
