When considering the hedging of currency risk, it is often overlooked that a diversified basket of emerging market currencies has a significantly greater correlation with global equity markets than a similar basket of developed market currencies. This has implications for how currency risk should be hedged, and we think it sensible to consider exposure to developed and emerging market currencies separately when deciding how much of each should be hedged.
