Buoyant: clearing of FX OTC contracts increased by 25% in the first half of 2018

Notional amounts of outstanding over-the-counter FX derivatives reached an all-time high of $96 trillion at the end of June – an increase of 10% since the end of 2017, a statistics report published by the Bank for International Settlements reveals.

The report attributes the surge in FX notional to activity in short-term instruments, much like OTC notional in other asset classes.

At the end of June, the outstanding notional value of OTC derivatives across all asset classes reached $595 trillion
