Passage Of Nafta May Soon Free Regulations On Mexican Peso Trade

After the U.S. House of Representatives' 234 to 200 passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta) last week, many market participants say current regulatory constraints on trading in the Mexican currency could be relaxed early in 1994, when the agreement is scheduled to take effect.

Although Nafta is slated for implementation January 1, 1994, the U.S. Senate, as well as the Mexican Senate, must still each approve it. However, passage both bodies is expected. The Canadian Parliament
