Chase Manhattan's foreign exchange desk suffered a severe blow last week after Manufacturers Hanover Trust scored what many traders are calling "a major coup" by landing Chase's chief spot trader in New York, Anthony Scamardella and senior Swiss franc dealer, Kenneth Mahaffey.

The two resigned from the bank June 27 and are set to head up Manny Hanny's foreign exchange spot trading operation this month.
