CME's Plan To Raise EFP Fees Raises Tempers Will Hike Drive Business Bank To Spot Market?

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange's decision to significantly increase the clearing fees for its Exchange For Physical (EFP) contracts has raised the ire of a number of participants. The fee hikes, which are slated to take effect April 1, will drive a substantial amount of that business back to the spot market, they say.

Although the clearing fee changes, which have been widely debated, include some reductions, the clearing fees for EFPs are being raised from 25 cents a contract for clearing
