No change likely for ringgit/dollar peg

"[The Malaysian government] would like to have events like Dr Mahathir stepping down and the general election out of the way before they look at the peg," said Irene Cheung, sovereign and FX strategist at ABN Amro in Singapore. "For the time being, there is no pressure on the ringgit peg because of the weakness of the US dollar. This means the ringgit is actually competitive compared to other Asian currencies which have been gaining ground against the US dollar."
