BIS Proposals Say Go Slow For Multilateral Netting Approval

The capital adequacy proposals released April 30 by Gerald Corrigan's Committee on Banking Supervision at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) contained what many observers in the market consider a gaping hole on the issue of multilateral netting of foreign exchange obligations. To some of these observers, the committee's treatment of the issue signals a red light for multilateral netting projects now in development. But supporters of those projects say this is not so.
