UK’s June election raises euro question

LONDON – UK prime minister Tony Blair last week called a general election for June 7, but the FX markets showed little interest. However, that may all change if the question of UK euro entry is raised during the campaign, analysts told FX Week.

Jane Foley, currency strategist at Barclays Capital in London, told FX Week: “Between June 7 and the end of the year, the pressure will mount on Blair to clarify the position regarding euro entry.

“In addition, with euro notes and coins to be introduced
