CME’s electronic forex volumes soar

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Mercantile Exchange saw a surge in electronic trading on its Globex platform in 2001, clocking a 137% rise year-on-year.

The platform traded 81.9 million contracts in 2001, representing 20% of the total volume transacted by the CME. Highest daily volume came on September 19 2001, when 622,354 contracts were traded via Globex.

Trading in FX futures was up by 16% compared with 2000, with 22.4 million contracts traded. The biggest percentage increase was in Eurodollar futures
