Macquarie Bank Plans U.K. Foreign Exchange Operation

Australia's Macquarie Bank is seeking a U.K. banking licence in a bid to expand its foreign exchange business in Europe, according to the bank's executive chairman David Clarke. "Discussions with the Bank of England and the Securities and Futures Authority are at an advanced stage and we are hoping the licence will come through soon, " Clarke says. Bank of England officials declined comment last week on the application.
