AUD/NZD set to hit parity by year end, says HSBC

The Australian dollar is set to hit parity against its New Zealand counterpart by the end of this year, for the first time since the two units floated, according to HSBC, as fundamentals firmly favour the Kiwi, despite the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) efforts to keep gains muted.

The cross has lost some 20% since early 2011, and for the first part of this year it has been trading near the lows of the AUD1.05–AUD1.60 range it has occupied since the 1980s.
