BIS appoints Carstens as general manager

Bank of Mexico governor to replace Jaime Caruana in October 2017, the BIS board of directors announced today

Agustin Carstens, governor of the Bank of Mexico, has been appointed general manager of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), effective on October 1, 2017, for a five-year term.

Carstens, who has run the Mexican central bank since 2010, will take over the position of general manager from Jaime Caruana, who retires next year.

"The board of directors is delighted to have secured a person of Mr Carstens' remarkable calibre and international experience to be the next BIS general manager,"
