Innovation is sweeping through foreign exchange markets with renewed force, as the pick-up in sentiment and recovery following the dark years of scandal become entrenched.

A sign of this was the 160-plus entries we received for the 13th annual FX Week e-FX Awards, which recognise excellence and innovation across 18 categories.

This year, we actually ended up splitting one category into two – an award for a bank and one for an independent provider – after the judges felt the algorithms provided by banks and independents were difficult to compare against the prevailing market backdrop.

We have also included an e-FX achievement award in our tally, to recognise individuals who have played a pivotal role in the development of electronic trading in the currency space.

Once again, the future is bright for an industry that has seen seismic shifts take place in a remarkably short time
Eva Szalay, FX Week

We are very proud to remain at the forefront of emerging industry trends, along with the many companies shortlisted and the select few who have been crowned winners in each category.

Yes, once again, the future is bright for an industry that has seen seismic shifts take place in a remarkably short time. Brexit may have proved to be a controversial outcome in the UK, but for FX, the return of volatility will be a good sign.

Change is always painful, but as ever, it's inevitable, and the way the industry sailed through the tough test of June 24, with the prospect of elevated levels of activity, volumes and volatility, must be comforting for all market players who spent the past few years preparing for the new trading environment.

As ever, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the members of the judging panel, who all put their valuable time and effort into sifting through the many submissions and evaluating them objectively.

Congratulations to all of the winners and better luck next year to those who lost out this time!
