Westpac wins with bet on sound pound

Westpac has topped this week's three-month currency forecast rankings with a prediction that the prospect of tapering in the US would not be enough to sustain dollar strength and outperformance in sterling would drive cable higher.

On May 17, when GBP/USD was trading at 1.5255, Westpac forecast the pair would rise to 1.54 in three months' time, accurately reflecting the spot rate of 1.5473 on August 12, according to data from Thomson Reuters.
