The Royal Bank of Canada is fighting an unfair dismissal and whistleblower claim made by former employee John Banerjee, who says that the bank fired him in 2016 as a result of his attempts to highlight operational failures and a culture of box-ticking.

Banerjee, who joined RBC in June 2015 from Jefferies, also claims that Ed Monaghan, RBC’s then global head of FX trading, attempted to bribe him in exchange for not pushing for an investigation into an unexecuted stop loss and a call order in
