M&A down by half in 2001

NEWS

LONDON/NEW YORK – Cross-border merger and acquisitions (M&A) activity was down by 52% last year, according to data released last month by research firm Dealogic.

Analysts believe M&A flows are a significant driver of FX transactions, and the drop-off in cross-border M&A flows could, in part, explain the recent 20% decline in global FX turnover in the past three years, as noted by the Bank for International Settlements’ (BIS) last triennial survey (FX Week, October 15).
