Riksbank to work with Accenture on e-krona pilot

First year will see development of user interface for mobile, card and watch-based payments

Sveriges Riksbank is to partner consulting firm Accenture to create a pilot version of its central bank digital currency (CBDC), the e-krona.

The assignment is set to run for a year until December 2020. The brief is to develop a technical test platform with a user interface that allows, “for instance”, payments to be made via mobile phones, cards and smart watches, the Swedish central bank says in a statement.

The platform will also include simulations of payment service providers, retail
