LONDON--Contributors and vendors alike face significant challenges in the run up to the euro, according to panellists at last week's Waters CSK market data forum in London--and the treatment of historical data is primary among market data vendors' concerns.

Datastream/ICV's Glen Bedwin, director of planning and communication, said there are effectively five approaches to treating historical data: national currencies, fixed rates (adjusted/restated), reference rates, proxies and synthetics.
