Systematically tracking the occurrence of flash crashes using specific criteria could help regulators and industry participants to understand how changes in technology, regulation and market practices can affect market quality, according to algorithm technology provider Pragma Securities.

While reports and discussions on foreign exchange flash crashes often look at individual cases in isolation, the firm believes a different approach that takes into account a set of quantitative thresholds
