The front office has been the focus of significant investment in recent years. But, in 2019, banks, exchanges, trading venues and other market participants will turn their attention to investing in systems designed to increase the efficiency of the back office, and reduce the costs it incurs, says Adrian Patten, co-founder and chairman of independent technology provider Cobalt.

With profits shrinking and fees on the rise, the back office is ripe for an overhaul, Patten points out.
