Despite widespread fears that competition between central counterparties (CCP) could cause them to play fast and loose with their risk management standards, speakers at an International Swaps and Derivatives Association regional conference in London on September 21 were confident proper regulation would ensure the system remains robust. Politicians and regulators have seized on clearing as a way to make the derivatives market sturdier, and rules are being drawn up on both sides of the Atlantic
