Academic opposition to FX exemption debated at Isda’s Europe conference

The controversial view that foreign exchange swaps and forwards should not be exempt from the mandatory clearing and exchange trading elements of the Dodd-Frank Act was raised again earlier this week by a high-profile finance academic.

Speaking at the International Swaps and Derivatives Association's annual Europe conference in London on September 20, Craig Pirrong, professor of finance at the University of Houston's Bauer College of Business, defended comments earlier this year by Darrell
