Matif Inaugurates New Trading Floor Despite FX Options Summer Slump

The Marché à Terme International de France (Matif) opens a new, state-of-the-art trading floor this week that includes two new pits for its currency options contracts--despite a recent slump in volume. Matif chairman Gérard Pfauwadel says the exchange plans to persevere with the contracts nonetheless.

"Until July 15, things were going pretty well--we were at about 40 per cent of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange's volume--but now we're down to less than half that," he says.
