Setting a January all-time high, trading volume on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) rose 37.3 per cent year-over-year, to 19,513,161 futures and options contracts traded with an underlying value of $16.8 trillion, officials say.

Overall options volume set an all-time January record of nearly 3.9 million contracts while futures volume was up 44 per cent. Interest-rate products dominated the surge, rising nearly 61 per cent, also a January record. Among currency contracts, British pound
