In an attempt to allay mounting fears, a contingent of top executives from Security Pacific National Bank flew to London to assure the troops that the bank remains committed to its foreign exchange and swap departments.
"We had an important brigade [in town] last week explaining to us some of the rationalization which has taken place in our merchant bank and they were painting a rosy picture for [foreign exchange] as a viable business," says a trader at the bank's London branch.
