Basle Committee Revises Market-Risk Proposals Allowing Use Of Banks' Risk-Measurement Models

REGULATIONS

The Group of Ten's Basle Committee on Banking Supervision has released revised proposals for a market-risk amendment to the 1998 capital accord that would permit banks to use their own internal models to measure market risk for capital requirements. The revision takes into account industry comment criticising the inflexibility of the original proposal, which was released in April, 1993 (FXW, May 3, 1993).

The committee has also, as expected, finalised its amendment to the accord permitting
