PARIS — In a pre-Congress straw poll of Forex 2000 delegates, Jean-Claude Trichet, governor of the Banque de France, received a qualified thumbs-up as a potentially better governor of the European Central Bank than Wim Duisenberg.
The questions — “Do you think Jean-Claude Trichet would be a better ECB head than Wim Duisenberg? And if he were, would the euro be weaker or stronger than it is now?” — were sent by e-mail to over 400 delegates in the week before the congress.
