VIENNA--In the months leading up to the introduction of the single European currency next January, Peter Fischer, the ACI: The Financial Markets Association's recently elected regional executive for Europe, is seeking a more proactive role for the association during the consultation process.

"The introduction of the euro is the single most important event on the agenda in 1998, and there is still a lot of work to do in view of the European process," says Fischer, who is also co-global treasurer
