RBA governor signals a rate cut more likely in 2019

Uncertain global outlook has rebalanced Reserve Bank of Australia's policy options

The Reserve Bank of Australia is more likely to cut rates now than in 2018 due to an increasingly uncertain global outlook, governor Philip Lowe said on February 6.

In a speech before the National Press Club of Australia in Sydney, Lowe stressed the importance of trade tensions between the US and China.

Topics ranging from Brexit, the global rise of populism and the reduced support of the Trump administration for the international liberal order also play an important role in the outlook.
